Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a medical condition that makes it difficult for men to consistently get or maintain an erection. Having erection trouble from time to time isn't necessarily a cause for concern. But if erectile dysfunction is an ongoing problem, it may cause stress, cause relationship problems or affect your self-confidence1. To get an erection, your brain, nerves, hormones, and blood vessels all need to work together. If something gets in the way of these normal functions, it can lead to erection problems2. Men may experience ED differently. Many men with ED may experience one or more of the following:
- Trouble achieving an erection
- Difficulty achieving an erection firm enough for penetration
- Erections not lasting long enough to have successful intercourse
The good news is that there are treatment options available for ED.
If you think that you may have ED, talk to your healthcare professional.
